Get Organized And Get Your Life Back

LESS : noun : a place of peace, contentment, relief, freedom

Welcome to my first blog post ever! I’ve put a lot of thought into what exactly I wanted to use my blog platform for. There are SO many amazing organizational blogs out there, and I don’t want mine to be just another post about how to organize your sock drawer (although it’s a necessity, and I’ll show you how to do that too!).  Ultimately, I decided I want this to be a place readers can come to find real-life advice for their organizational dilemmas, but I also want to focus on the psychological aspects of how organization can affect your brain, your body as a whole, your loved ones, and ultimately your peace of mind and sanity!

I get it, I’ve been there! We wake up, get the kids ready, try to get to the gym, fight through the day with deadlines and appointments, rush home (wondering what in the heck we are going to cook for dinner), eat too fast, get kids to more commitments, come home and go to sleep. Then REPEAT, over and over.  Rather than returning to a place that is meant to be our haven- our retreat from the chaos outside the home, it is oftentimes the complete opposite. I truly believe we highly underestimate how much our minds are affected by this.

So now I know you are thinking, yeah, I agree, but what do I do about it? No, this isn’t the moment I insert a witty business plug where I tell you I am your answer to everything, but what I WILL suggest, is acknowledging that this could be an issue is the very first step. Many times, this has become such the norm that the problem is hard to even recognize. We don’t understand why we keep feeling like we are spinning our wheels and getting nowhere fast. This doesn’t make you bad or meant to make you feel shameful or embarrassed. This makes you HUMAN.

By nature, I am a perfectionist, and many times, I wouldn’t start a project because I knew I didn’t know exactly how it would turn out. I knew I wouldn’t have time to make it “just so”, so I wouldn’t start it at all. And then one project would then stack on to the next, and I became overwhelmed and completely paralyzed. When I would have jolts of energy to organize, it would look great, I would be so proud, and then, it was back to chaos within a month.

It took me years, and some hard life lessons, to learn it was my STUFF that was holding me back! When I moved from a home with too much room (in my opinion) to a smaller home, getting rid of excess completely changed me in a way I could have never predicted. Every item I trashed or donated gave me a feeling of accomplishment, not loss. Every truckload of donations we took to Goodwill, gave me such a feeling of relief. I felt lighter…free even.

That is where the name “LESS” was born. That feeling, that omnipotent place of peace, is something I couldn’t even explain if I tried, but I knew I loved it, and I wanted more of it. Not only that, but I realized I wanted other people to have it too! My biggest hope is for others to be open to receiving the gift that comes with LESS.  A place of contentment that you can find in your own life. Trust me, if I can do it, you can too!

In the coming weeks, I’ll be giving tips on where to begin on your journey to LESS and step by step ways to incorporate routines and systems in your home that will not only make you happy to open up your cabinet, but happier to open your eyes each morning to a healthier, more positive outlook on life!
